The best Saint-Tropez wedding venues

First, the fact that shapes every choice

A legally binding wedding in France happens only at the Mairie, in French, in the commune where one of you, or one of your parents, lives. According to the official guidance on service-public.gouv.fr, living there means at least one month of continuous residence by the day the banns are published, and the banns then hang at the town hall for ten days before the wedding may take place. A church wedding in France must follow a civil one, never replace it.

No château terrace, beach club or vineyard on this list can legally marry you. In practice that liberates the planning: most international couples sign at home and hold the real ceremony here, which means the venue question is purely about light, guests and style, never about paperwork. One more honest note before the list. We write these shortlists as photographers reading venues by light and logistics, not as a directory selling placement. No venue below paid to be here, none is scored, and where a capacity is quoted it comes from the venue's own pages. Several addresses that still appear on older lists, Château Volterra on Cap Camarat among them, are private homes that host no events, and they are left out on purpose.

The hilltop château

• Château de la Messardière is the address that solves Saint-Tropez's hardest problem, summer distance. A nineteenth century château run by Airelles as a palace hotel of 86 rooms and suites on its own thirteen hectare pine hill between the village and Pampelonne, it can be reserved exclusively for a wedding and keeps its own beach, the Jardin Tropezina, down on the sand. Ceremony, dinner and party happen at one address with the bay laid out below, no transfers through July traffic, and altitude the town cannot offer. Choose the hill if the wedding wants a horizon and quiet. The trade is atmosphere: the village's electricity stays down in the village.

The village legends

• Byblos Saint-Tropez is the myth itself, the hotel that made the town's name in 1967, a village of ochre houses around a pool with Les Caves du Roy downstairs. For a private event the hotel publishes room for 90 seated in the restaurant, 300 seated on the terrace and 400 for a cocktail dinner, which makes it the largest true village address. A Byblos wedding borrows the energy of Saint-Tropez at full volume, and it photographs best at night.
• Hôtel de Paris Saint-Tropez plays the modern counterpoint a street from the port, with a rooftop that owns the town's best sunset angle over the citadel and the gulf. Its own events pages list a patio for up to 250, a conference space for up to 175 and La Serena Beach on the sand for 160 seated or 250 standing, so one booking can hold the dinner in town and the next day on the beach.

Choose the village if you want Saint-Tropez itself in the frame, the lanes, the harbour masts, the noise turning to music after dark. The trade is privacy, the town watches everything.

Ramatuelle, the quiet luxury

• La Réserve Ramatuelle is where the peninsula goes silent. A contemporary building folded into the cliff above the sea, gardens running to the horizon, architecture that keeps out of the view's way. The hotel quotes its events in villas rather than ballrooms, with a maximum of about eighty guests, and weddings here are small by design, guest lists that value discretion above display.
• Villa Marie, on the slopes of Ramatuelle above Pampelonne, runs a dedicated weddings and events offer with rooms on site, pine and terracotta rather than glass, and the bay seen through umbrella pines. It suits a wedding that wants the hotel to feel like a friend's house.

Choose Ramatuelle if the wedding is private at heart. The trade is convenience, most guests stay in the town or the hills and travel to you.

Pampelonne, the party on the sand

The beach runs for more than four and a half kilometres and is where Saint-Tropez actually happens in summer. Its clubs host the receptions, lunches and next day parties the town is famous for: Club 55 the patriarch, open from late March to the start of November, La Réserve à la Plage, which takes exclusive evening bookings after its daytime service ends at half past six, and Nikki Beach, whose restaurant takes up to 220. Toes in the sand, magnums in ice, the famous striped light of late afternoon.

The honesty the brochures skip is now written into law. Ramatuelle's decree on noise at Pampelonne allows amplified music only in designated zones, only between four and seven in the afternoon, from late June to the end of August, at a limit measured fifty metres away; outside those hours only the ordinary sound of the beach is permitted. It is enforced: in September 2025 the prefect suspended the sound systems of clubs that broke it. The clubs work on public beach concessions, so the sand is never fully yours, and every structure is taken down from November to February.

So treat Pampelonne as the afternoon reception and the next day party, plan the vows and the dancing for a terrace, a château or a vineyard, and the sand gives you everything it actually has, which is a great deal. Choose the beach if the album should smell of salt and rosé. The trade is control.

The vineyards of Gassin

Behind the beach the peninsula turns to vines, and two estates in Gassin publish wedding offers. Domaine du Bourrian takes from ten to 350 guests across a barrel hall, a garden, a terrace and the vineyard itself, can be hired whole, and allows music outdoors until one in the morning and indoors until five, which no beach on the peninsula can match. Domaine Tropez seats up to 150 at round tables with a dance floor among the vines, and shares an owner with Les Graniers beach below, so the morning after can move straight to the sand.

Vineyard weddings here photograph like Provence rather than the Riviera, warm, rural and unhurried, and they give a photographer more to work with after sunset than any beach can. Choose the vines if the wedding is a dinner and a long night. The trade is glamour, there is no harbour and no legend, only the best light on the peninsula.

Getting there, and getting around

Saint-Tropez sits at the end of a single peninsula road, and in July and August that road decides more weddings than any venue does. Nice airport is about an hour and a half away in light traffic and a good deal more in high summer. Toulon Hyères is about an hour. The small La Môle airport, seventeen kilometres from town, takes private and business aircraft by daylight only, with a short runway and twenty four hours' notice. A helicopter from Nice takes about twenty minutes. By train, the TGV stops at Les Arcs Draguignan and Saint-Raphaël.

The trick locals use is the water. The Bateaux Verts shuttle crosses from Sainte-Maxime to the port in about fifteen minutes and from Port Grimaud in about twenty, which is often the fastest way to move a guest list into town on a summer evening. We plan the day around transfers before we plan it around light, because a ceremony timed to the sunset is only as good as the road that reaches it.

When to marry, and when the light goes

June and September are the classic answer and they are correct. The sun sets around a quarter past nine at midsummer, just before nine at the start of August, around ten past eight on the first of September and around a quarter to eight by the middle of it. Daytime highs average about 26 degrees in June, 29 in July and August and 25 in September, and the sea runs from about 21 degrees in June to the mid twenties in August, with sources disagreeing by a degree or two.

Two weeks to check against any date: the Bravades, the town's own festival in mid May, and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, the classic yacht regatta, which in 2026 runs from 26 September to 4 October and fills every room on the gulf. The Mistral, the cold northwesterly, is mostly a winter and spring wind, but a summer episode can blow for a day and chill the sea, so an outdoor plan always carries an indoor one.

What a Saint-Tropez wedding costs

Venues rarely print prices here, so the useful figures come from planners. A French wedding publisher's 2026 comparison puts a coastal Côte d'Azur wedding for eighty guests, Saint-Tropez included, at around 100 000 to 300 000 euros and more, with a weekend venue on the Riviera from about 20 000 to 60 000 euros and a planner from about 10 000 to 20 000. Peak season on the peninsula itself sits at the top of those bands; May, early June and late September sit lower.

Choosing between them

Ask what the wedding is at its core and the peninsula sorts itself. A horizon and one address, the Messardière. The town in the frame and a party in the walls, Byblos or the Hôtel de Paris. Silence and sea, La Réserve Ramatuelle or Villa Marie. Salt, sand and a famous afternoon, Pampelonne, with the vows held elsewhere. A long dinner and a later night, the Gassin vineyards.

Whatever the answer, the planning realities are the same: June and September over the gridlock months, transfers by water where you can, music hours read before the contract, discretion assumed.
