Weddings at Villa Treville
Once the private home of the director Franco Zeffirelli, Villa Treville stands on the cliffs east of Positano in a cascade of white terraces and bougainvillea. It was built by a man of the theatre and it shows, in the best way: every terrace is a set, and a wedding here is staged as much as photographed.
A villa built by a man of the theatre
Treville was Zeffirelli's own house, and it carries a film director's eye in its bones. The property tumbles down the cliff in a series of white terraces linked by stairs and arches, each framed on the sea, each with a different light through the day. Nothing here is accidental. The bougainvillea, the tiled loggias, the little chapel, the pergolas, all of it was composed to be looked at.
For a photographer that is a rare pleasure and a real demand. The frames are already designed, so the work is to move a wedding through them at the right hours and to keep up with a villa that offers a new composition around every corner. It is Positano at its most private and most theatrical at once.
The frames that matter here
- The main terrace over the sea, Positano's cliffs stacked to the west, the classic Treville vow.
- The white stairs and arches, the villa's connective theatre, a descending dress and the sea beyond.
- The pergolas and loggias, tiled and shaded, for the lunch and the quiet portraits.
- The little chapel, intimate and cool, the ceremony the villa hides in its stone.
- The boat below, Positano from the water at golden hour, the album's cover more often than not.
Photographing a set
Treville rewards preparation more than most. Because every terrace is composed and the levels are linked only by stairs, a photographer who does not know the geography will spend the day climbing and miss the light moving across the levels. We scout the villa the day before, agree the running order with your planner, and plan which terrace holds the light at each hour.
Positano's setting adds the boat. A session on the water at golden hour, the town and the villa stacked above you, is forty minutes that gives the album its cover, and Treville's private jetty makes it simple. We cross with you and photograph the villa from the sea it was built to face.

Working at Villa Treville
Know the levels
Treville is a stack of terraces linked by stairs. We learn the geography the day before and follow the light as it moves down the villa, so nothing photogenic is missed to a climb.
Private and theatrical
The villa is Positano at its most private, a composed set behind its own walls. Planned photography keeps the day calm and lets the theatre of the place carry the album.
The boat below
Treville faces the sea it was built for. A golden hour session from the water, the villa and Positano above, is the frame that tends to become the cover.
Asked about this house
Three honest answers
Is Villa Treville a private wedding venue?
It is. Villa Treville is booked exclusively, the former home of Franco Zeffirelli, which gives a Positano wedding total privacy behind its own walls. We coordinate with the villa's team and your planner and scout the terraces before the day.
Can you photograph a Positano wedding from the water?
Yes, and at Treville it is easy: the villa has its own jetty, so a golden hour session on a boat below the cliffs, the town stacked above, needs no long transfer. It is usually the frame that becomes the album cover.
How should the day be timed at Villa Treville?
Around the terraces and the light. Each level holds the sun at a different hour, so we plan the ceremony, the dinner and the portraits to follow the light down the villa, and keep the boat for the last of the gold.
Treville for the weekend? We will follow the light down.
