The best Amalfi Coast wedding venues, by light
The coast's famous venues all share the same sea. What separates them is altitude, orientation and the hour their terraces catch fire. We photograph these towns every season, and this is the honest shortlist, Ravello for gardens and evening light, Positano for theatre, Capri for the day after.
Ravello, the high gardens
- Villa Cimbrone. The Terrace of Infinity is the most dramatic ceremony backdrop in Italy, and the gardens behind it carry the rest of the day. It belongs to weddings fully at the edges of the day, which is exactly when it should be photographed. Our full field guide to weddings at Villa Cimbrone covers the empty hours.
- Villa Rufolo. The umbrella pine framing the bay is the postcard, but the real gift is the garden's layered levels, ceremony above, dinner below, dancing in the tower's shadow.
- Hotel Caruso. The infinity pool at dawn, a rose garden that survives August, and the ease of a great hotel holding the whole weekend.
Positano, the theatre
- Le Sirenuse. The red house in the middle of the amphitheatre, terraces facing the dome, the town stacked behind every frame. Intimate by nature and better for it. Our guide to weddings at Le Sirenuse covers its hours and its boat.
- Villa Treville. Theatre people built it and it shows. Gardens dropping to a private sea deck, interiors that photograph like set design, and the best sunset terraces on the western edge of town.
- Rada and the beach clubs. For parties that want the sea at their feet. Loud, glamorous, and made for a film crew as much as a photographer.
Capri, the day after
- Certosa di San Giacomo. Cloisters, silence, the sea through arches. The island's most photogenic monument and a gift for portraits without a single crowd in frame.
- The Gardens of Augustus and the Faraglioni. The classic island frames, best reached before nine in the morning, when the paths belong to residents and wedding couples.
A Capri day after session spreads the coast's cost and gives the archive a second chapter. Most of our coast couples now plan one, and the crossing itself photographs beautifully.
Choosing between the towns
Marry in Ravello if the ceremony is the heart of your day, the altitude light and gardens are unmatched. Marry in Positano if the party is, the town at night is its own celebration. Use Capri as the quiet second chapter. And whichever you choose, protect a boat hour below the cliffs, it is where this coast keeps its best portraits.

Quick answers
Asked often
Which Amalfi Coast venue is best for the ceremony itself?
Villa Cimbrone's Terrace of Infinity, if the schedule can use the garden's quiet hours. Villa Rufolo for the classic bay frame with easier logistics. Both sit in Ravello, which holds its light longer than the towns at sea level.
Is Positano or Ravello better for photographs?
Different films. Ravello gives gardens, altitude and clean evening light, a slower and more romantic frame. Positano gives theatre, the stacked town, the boats, the night. The strongest albums we make on this coast usually touch both.
Do we need a boat at an Amalfi Coast wedding?
For the photographs, yes. The coast was built to be seen from the sea, and forty minutes on the water gives the album its establishing frames. Every venue above can arrange it, and it is the best money of the day.
