Weddings at One&Only Portonovi

Where it sits, and why that matters

Portonovi occupies the shoulder of the bay at Kumbor, just inside the narrows. This position is the property's real advantage and it is a photographic one. Deeper into the bay, at Kotor and Perast, the mountain wall takes the sun as much as ninety minutes before the printed sunset. At the mouth the wall is lower and further off, so the estate keeps a longer, softer end to the day than anywhere further in.

It also means the water in front of you is calm bay water rather than open sea, which matters for boat work, for a beach ceremony that will not be shouted over by surf, and for the reflected light that comes back up off it at dusk.

The spaces a wedding uses

• Villa One, the estate's own residence, with uninterrupted views down the bay and privacy that no terrace can match, seating around thirty guests.
• The Boka Garden, an open air garden venue that takes the larger ceremonies and the long dinners.
• Il Giardino, the courtyard, where a flower draped gazebo makes the most sheltered ceremony option on the property.
• The private beach, a stretch of white sand facing back into the bay, which is where the late light lands.
• Sabia, Tapasake and La Veranda, the signature restaurants, each of which can take a rehearsal dinner or a smaller reception without a marquee.
• A full estate buyout is available subject to a minimum spend, which is the route couples take when the guest list and the privacy requirement arrive together.

Practicalities worth knowing early

The property does not run an in house wedding planner. It maintains a list of planners who know the estate and expects you to work through one of them, which is a more common arrangement at this tier than couples realise and is not a drawback. It does mean the planner is chosen earlier in the process here than at a hotel with its own events team, and the planner, not the hotel, becomes the party who holds your timings.

Scale runs comfortably from around twenty guests to a hundred and twenty. Above that the estate starts to need production rather than rooms, and the conversation changes.
