Weddings at Amanzoe

A hilltop of pale colonnades above the Argolic gulf, two and a half hours by road from Athens, on the coast the Greek shipping families have quietly used for fifty years. Amanzoe is the country's most private large scale wedding address, and it is the answer for every couple who wanted the Cyclades and then counted their guest list.

Why the mainland wins the guest list argument

Almost every couple who considers Greece starts with an island and ends up making a compromise, because a caldera terrace that holds forty people cannot hold a hundred, and no amount of budget changes that. The Peloponnese removes the constraint entirely. Amanzoe sits on its own hill with pavilions, villas, an amphitheatre and a beach club below, and it is reachable by road, which means suppliers, production, flowers and guests all arrive without a ferry timetable or a meltemi forecast in the way.

It is also genuinely private in a way island venues cannot be. There is no public path along the ridge, no sunset crowd, no other hotel looking back at you. For couples who marry away from cameras for a living, that is usually the whole decision.

The frames the property gives

Light, scale and the second day

The hilltop position gives something the islands do not: elevation without a cliff. Portraits can be made against open sky and gulf at any point on the ridge, and the olive terraces below hold soft shade through the hard middle hours. Aegean contrast is still brutal between eleven and four, so the plan follows the same discipline as anywhere in Greece, first and last two hours for the work, the middle for the sea.

Scale is the real luxury here. Because pavilions and villas sit across the estate rather than stacked in a building, a three day wedding weekend can genuinely happen on one property, and the photography can follow it without anyone moving hotels. That is worth planning for deliberately: the welcome dinner at the Bostani, the wedding on the ridge, the recovery at the beach club, and a boat to Spetses on the last morning.

What the work costs is set out in our shortlist of the best wedding venues in Greece and in the wider Greece field notes, which also explain the legal file and the meltemi.

Planning notes

Working at Amanzoe

i.

Reachable by road

Two and a half hours from Athens with no ferry and no island logistics. Suppliers, production and guests all arrive on the same day without a weather clause.

ii.

The colonnades do the work

Hard graphic shade at midday, raking light at both ends. We plan portraits against the architecture rather than fighting the Aegean glare.

iii.

Built for three days

Pavilions and villas spread across the estate, with a beach club below and two car free islands a short boat ride away. Plan the weekend, not the day.

Asked about this house

Three honest answers

Is Amanzoe better than the islands for a large wedding?

For anything above roughly eighty guests, yes, and it is not close. Cliff terraces in the Cyclades hold twenty five to sixty people. Amanzoe has an amphitheatre, pavilions, villas and a beach club on one estate, reachable by road, which removes the ferry, the wind and the capacity ceiling in a single decision.

What is there to do around Porto Heli for guests?

Spetses is twenty minutes away by boat and Hydra roughly forty, both car free and both excellent for a day after session. Ermioni and Porto Heli itself are ten minutes by road, and the archaeological sites of the Argolid are within an easy morning.

Do you photograph weddings at Amanzoe?

Yes, by commission. We scout the ridge, the amphitheatre and the colonnades in your ceremony light before the day, and build the schedule around the Aegean's hard middle hours rather than pretending they are workable.
